Covenant Varsity to Host two Nobel Laureates :
Covenant University will host two Nobel prize winners in Economic Science at her first international conference on African Development Issues slated for May.
The theme is ‘Rising Economic Opportunities for Investors in Africa and the Prospect of an African Economic Miracle.”
Professor Thomas J. Sargent, a 2011 Nobel prize winner in Economic Science and currently a Professor of Economics at New York University, will be joined by the 2007 Nobel prize winner in Economic Science and currently the Adams University Professor at Harvard University, Professor Eric S. Maskin, as distinguished guest speakers.
A statement by the university’s Head, Corporate and public Afair Unit, Emmanuel Igan, stated that duo would be supported by an array of renowned experts drawn from both national and international institutions, who will deliberate on issues raised by the guest speakers to chart the way forward for sustainable growth and development impetus on the continent.

The panellists, according to the statement, are Dr. Sarah Alade, Acting Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria; Dr. Kalu I. Kalu, former Minister of Finance; Prof. Jonathan Leape, London School of Economics; Dr. Jonathan Aremu, ECOWAS Common Investment Market; Prof. John Ifediora, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, USA and Prof. Kenneth Adeyemi, Covenant University, Nigeria.

The university management said the conference to be hosted by the chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Ayo, portends great opportunities for policy makers, investors, international development institutions, financial organisations, industrialists and research centres.(Punch)
