Court Remands Corps Member in Custody for the  Murder of a 8-Year Old Boy in Kano State

A corps member serving in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano state identified as Jepthan Peter Makwin has been remanded by a magistrates’ court, sitting at Nomansland, on Friday December 3rd for the murder of a eight- year- old boy Hassan Sulaiman. The deceased was a class three pupil of Old Mosque Islamiyah School, Bebeji, his parents alledge that, Hassan Sulaiman, died after allegedly being beaten by Makwin in October 2019.

Sulaiman Aliyu the victims’ father said, late Hassan and friends used to visit the NYSC Lodge to collect fruits, the Corps members were known to love children and freely gave them fruits. On the day of the incident, Hassan had gone back for more fruits after previously collecting some. He alledged that Makwin got angry on sighting Hassan trying to get more fruits and beat the boy, banging his head to the wall and kicked him severally which led to his death.

Reacting to the report, the Kano state NYSC coordinator, Ladan Baba denied that Mr Makwin was responsible for Hassan’s death. He said Makwin ran after little Hassan when he saw him trying to pluck fruits from the umbrella tree, In the process, the boy fell and hit his head on the wall of the entrance of the Lodge.
