Corps Members Released After Being Held Hostage By Villagers

About 50 Corps members who served as adhoc staff during the general elections but were held hostage were by some villagers in Assakio, Adogi and Shige area of Lafia Local Government, Nasarawa on Saturday have regained their freedom.

According to report, they were held hostage because the collation and returning officers in the area absconded leaving the villagers with no other option than to keep the Corps members hostage until they see the INEC Officials.

According to one of the released hostages, “I had to convince the villagers that the results would not be altered before we were released 24 hours after.
“It was after that the people released us and we called the security operatives who picked us on our way out of the village.”

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr. Abdullahi Nanyaya, has confirmed the incident.
