Commissioner, others Call For Increased Funding Of Education

The Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Mr. Oyinlomo Danmole, Senator Anthony Adefuye and a cleric, pastor Sunday Kalu, have called on the government to increase the funding of education in the country.

They made this call at the 8th valedictory and prize giving day of the Viscum Group of Schools, Omole Phase 2, Lagos.

Danmole, who advocated functional education, urged the Federal Government to do more for education in the area of funding.

He said, “This is the only way to ensure a functional, disciplined society and nation premised on the fear of God. This is the only way we can build a nation we can all be proud of.”

The commissioner, while appreciating the standard operated by the school, called for the sustenance of such.

Extolling the strides of the Lagos State Government, especially in the educational sector, Adefuye called for effective partnership and co-operation between the public and private sectors.

He suggested, among others, more regular unscheduled visits to schools to monitor the welfare of pupils and performance of the teaching and the non-teaching staff.

Adefuye, who frowned on the rush to study abroad by some people, described it as a waste of resources.

According to him, such children would still come back to live and work with their colleagues back home.

He said, “Rather than send these children abroad for educational pursuits, it is rather very convenient, cheaper and rewarding to train them in Nigeria, where such investments would be very handsomely realized.

The guest of honour, pastor Samuel Kalu, reiterated the utmost need for parents, guardians, and the society to be exemplary role models at all times for the children.
