Chrisland university honors legacy of excellence as Prof. Chinedum Babalola bids farewell

Subsequent to seven years of visionary leadership, Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola, a renowned Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, has concluded her remarkable tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta.

Widely celebrated for her administrative expertise, Prof. Babalola's time at Chrisland was nothing short of transformative. Among her notable achievements, she secured full accreditation for 11 academic programs from the National Universities Commission (NUC), earning her the title "NUC Par Excellence." Under her leadership, student enrollment soared from a modest 55 to an impressive 2,000, reflecting the university’s growing reputation.

Recognized as one of Nigeria’s 10 most influential female scientists, Prof. Babalola brought her expertise in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacokinetics to bear on the institution's development. Her leadership emphasized academic excellence, innovation, and international collaboration, leaving an indelible mark on Chrisland's history.

Prof. Babalola's academic journey began at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and later at the University of Ibadan (UI), where she became the first female Professor of Pharmacy. Her historic two-term deanship at UI’s Faculty of Pharmacy paved the way for her to assume the Vice-Chancellorship of Chrisland University in 2017.

With the unwavering support of her husband, Bishop Collins Olufemi Babalola, and encouragement from Chrisland’s Chancellor, Dr. Winifred Awosika, Prof. Babalola took on the role, steering the institution to new heights. She spearheaded infrastructural upgrades, recruited top-tier talent, and fostered partnerships with global academic bodies, all while advocating for systemic improvements in Nigeria’s educational sector.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Prof. Babalola balanced her roles as a wife, mother, and active academic, embodying resilience and commitment. Stakeholders and colleagues hailed her as a trailblazer, with Chrisland’s Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Farombi, describing her as a leader who “goes where there is no path and leaves a trail.”

As Prof. Babalola passes the baton to her successor, she leaves behind a legacy of excellence and innovation. Her tenure at Chrisland University will be remembered as a period of unparalleled growth, setting a benchmark for leadership in academia.
