Rev. Sean O. Sheridan, T.O.R., Catholic University alumnus and assistant professor in the School of Canon Law, has been named president of the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio.
“I congratulate Father Sean Sheridan on his appointment as president of the Franciscan University of Steubenville and am proud to call him one of our own,” said Catholic University President John Garvey.
“As a double alumnus of our University and a member of our faculty, he has valuable experience in Catholic higher education. That experience, coupled with his training in civil and canon law, provides him with impressive qualifications to lead the Franciscan University.”
Father Sheridan, who is a native of Cresson, Pa., has been an assistant professor in Catholic University’s School of Canon Law since 2009, and in 2012 he took a leave of absence from CUA to join Franciscan University’s Theology Department as a professor.
He entered the Franciscan Third Order Regular in 2000, and was ordained to the priesthood in 2006. At Catholic University, he obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law in 2007 and a Doctor of Canon Law in 2009.
Before entering religious life, Father Sheridan graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. In 1990, he earned a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and then practiced in the health-care litigation field in Sacramento, Calif., and Pittsburgh for 10 years.
Father Sheridan has served on the editorial board of The Jurist since 2009, and since 2011 has served as its book review editor. The Jurist is published by CUA’s School of Canon Law. His articles have been published in The Jurist, Journal of Catholic Higher Education, and other academic publications.
