Each time I see polytechnic students now, I pity their bleak future, especially if they are unfortunate to be in the Federal Civil Service after graduation.
I am a product of a polytechnic and I am proud of the training I received there, but the policy of the Federal Government that does not allow a poly graduate beyond Level 14 is frustrating. How can a person be happy when the same promotion exam is conducted for B.sc and HND from Level 8 to 14, and then a policy stops the HND holder while his B.sc counterpart can be promoted to the sky, if God permits?
Many brilliant and innovative officers have been stagnated on Level 14 for many years and some of them still have more years in the civil service.
In the light of the above, I am suggesting the cancellation of polytechnic education, so that our predicament shall not be the portion of the incoming generations.
