BUK Admits 8,212 out of 18,112 Admission Seekers - 2014/15

Bayero University, Kano, BUK admits 8,212 out of 18,112 candidates that applied for the institution’s post UTME screening exercise during the 2014/2015 academic session.  DVC said matriculants should count themselves lucky to have gained admission.

Bayero University, Kano(BUK) would not hesitate to use the sledge hammer on any student whose actions and behaviours go contrary to laid down rules and regulations, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed mni, mfr has warned.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony of the newly admitted students on Friday, 12th June, 2015 at the Musa Abdullahi Auditorium, the Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Sagir Abbas, said ‘you must count yourself lucky to have gained admission, because out of about 18,112 who applied only 8,212 of you were successful, you must therefore do everything humanly possible to justify this confidence by abiding by the school’s rules and regulations at all times,’ he counselled.

Professor Rasheed added that for ‘you to excel in character and in learning, you must face your studies seriously and abide by the rules and regulations of this university that are contained in the General Examinations and Academic Regulations Handbook which was issued to you at the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records at the point of screening.

He said out of 8,212 students matriculating today, 4,487 (55%) are from the Sciences and 3,725 (45%) the Arts. Also, 5,542 (67%) are males while 2,670 representing (33%) are females, saying that each and every state of the federation is represented, including three (3) foreign students.

The University in recent times introduced new programmes, such as Architecture, Estate Management, Quantity Survey, Urban and Regional Planning, Dietetics and Optometry, among others. “Being pioneer students of these programmes, I enjoin you to be good ambassadors of these programmes and prove to us that we have not made the wrong decision by admitting you into the university.”

He congratulated the students and pray that as ‘we are gathered here to witness your entry into the university, may we also in the next 4-5 years gather here to celebrate your graduation.’
