Bill to establish a federal university of education in Bichi passes second reading

A bill seeking to establish a federal university of education (Technical) in Bichi, Kano State has passed its second reading at the Nigerian Senate chambers.

The bill, according to its sponsor, Senator Jibrin Barau (APC Kano North) when passed, will encourage the advancement of learning to all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex, or political conviction.

Barau in his lead debate for the passage of the Bill said there is a need for a strong system in the country’s education sector, with the establishment of more Institutions for the training of teachers.

Lawmakers in the upper chambers who contributed to the debate on the bill gave it overwhelming support., passing it for the second reading when put to voice votes by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan.

Bichi currently has a Federal College of Education (Technical) and it is unsure if it is going to be converted to a university of education or if a new institution will be established to this effect.
