Bayero University Kano (BUK) has announced plans to establish a department for theatre and film studies which will collaborate with film writers, directors and other stakeholders in order to transform the Kano based Hausa film industry, Kannywood, into a vibrant one.
Vice Chancellor of the varsity, Professor Abubakar Rashid, said this yesterday at an international conference organized by the institution in honour of Professor Dandatti Abdulkadir, a specialist in Nigerian folklore.
“The BUK Senate and council have endorsed our proposal to establish a department of theatre and film studies. I will soon appoint a head of department and construct a modern theatre and film studio for teaching purposes,” he said.
