Bayelsa govt reacts as pictures of students sitting on bare floor to learn hits the internet

Over the weekend, photos of students of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Kaiama in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa state were shared online showing students sitting on the bare floor to receive lectures. The images generated public criticism and backlash against the government.

Following the backlash, the State Governor, Douye Diri in a statement released today, July 6th, has directed the relocation of the school to a new site and facility.

The statement which was issued by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Ayiba Duba on behalf of the governor said the Government is not unaware of the condition of the schools, and a holistic plan of action is being implemented to revamp them.

Duba further explained that the government is committing huge resources to several ongoing renovation and reconstruction of existing school infrastructure and the construction of new ones. He blamed the deplorable state of the girls's school on flooding.
