The Bauchi state government has communicated their displeasure over the fact that about 1.5 million students are currently not in school in the state. The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Senator Baba Tela revealed this during a visit to the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) in Abuja.
Senator Tela revealed that the state’s resources have been over-stretched because they had to accommodate persons, including children from neighbouring states that were displaced as a result of insurgency. He said the efforts of the government to build more schools across the state is still not enough for the estimated out-of-school children.
While thanking the OSSAP-SDGs for previous interventions in the state, the deputy governor referred to the situation as worrisome and pleaded for help. Reacting to this, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire assured the state government that her office gives priority to education and will collaborate with them to tackle the problem.
