Barricade as The Polytechnic Ibadan students protest outage

Academic activities were on Monday paralysed at the Polytechnic, Ibadan, as its students protested against the epileptic power supply in the institution.

The students, who barricaded the school entrances for over two hours, rendered anti-government slogans during the demonstration.

Those, who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said there was the need to address the epileptic power supply to the school, particularly at its main campus for smooth academic activities.

One of the students said, “Power supply has been so terrible in the school recently. We have been experiencing perpetual darkness at nights in the school since they carried out a repair work on the generator.

“We complained that the situation should be addressed because it is inimical to our career as students. This is an academic environment and we should be given some comfort.”

The polytechnic Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole, who condemned the protest, said the action was needless.

He said, “We once gave them telephone numbers of principal officers so that they can always make complaints and cross-check facts from the school authorities as occasion demands.”
