The Managing Director, Micnet Concepts International, Mr. Mike Neboh, has said the level of educational growth in the country would not have been possible without the deliberate efforts of nationalists like the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chinua Achebe, Chief Babatunde Fafunwa, Tai Solarin, among others.
Thus in March next year, they will be given post-humous awards tagged Educational Icons Award.
Neboh also said others still alive, including Prof. Grace Alele-Williams, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Prof. Jubril Aminu and the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo would also be honoured.
“Although the education sector has passed through twists and turns in the last 53 years, the achievements of our heroes past, whose visions, programmes and actions laid the foundation for education in Nigeria and their remarkable achievements remain indelible to us.
“Like the founding fathers, several other Nigerians have also made their marks in various fields and are widely recognised across the world as shining examples of excellence. It is time to celebrate these heroes and champions and educational icons awards serve as a platform to highlight and honour their effort s and contributions to the nation’s education.”
Neboh added that the award would provide a platform to redefine values, promote the best in education and serve as a means of bringing back its lost glory.
He said it would also be given in the following categories; best education policy by a minister, state government, best vice- chancellors in public nad private universities, best school principal(public and private), best primary school head teacher, among others.
