Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has made a groundbreaking decision to provide automatic employment for first class graduates of Edo origin from all Nigerian universities into the state’s civil and public service. This initiative is aimed at equipping the Edo State Civil and Public Service with top-tier talent in order to achieve the governor’s vision of making Edo the best place to live and work by 2050.

Automatic Employment for First Class Graduates

The Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., conveyed the governor’s approval and praised this forward-thinking gesture. He described it as pace-setting and a worthy move that aligns with the long-term vision for the state. The initiative was initially extended to the Best Graduating Students of the Edo State University, Uzairue during its 3rd Convocation Ceremony. Later, it was expanded to include graduates from the University of Benin and Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

15 First Class Graduates and Best Graduating Students

Okungbowa revealed that the names of 15 First Class graduates and the Best Graduating Students from the aforementioned universities have already been forwarded to the Civil Service Commission for further action. He urged Vice Chancellors of Nigerian universities to submit the names and particulars of First Class students who are Edo indigenes to the Edo State Government for the same purpose.

It is worth noting that Edo State is recognized as the highest-paying state government among Nigerian States. Governor Obaseki has raised the minimum wage in the state to N40,000, demonstrating his commitment to investing in human resources.
