Idogho urged the matriculating students to count themselves fortunate and advised them to maintain the same level of academic excellence, while in the school.
She enjoined them to subject themselves to the rules and regulations of the institution, saying that it was the only way they can have a fulfilled stay at the institution.
“The rules binding all students expect that students are disciplined, attend 75 per cent lectures before they qualify to write examinations.
“The polytechnic is determined to make the learning environment conducive for you so that you can optimise your time for learning,’’ she said.
Idogho frowned at the issue of examination malpractice and stressed the readiness of the authorities to stamp out all forms of crime.
She also urged the fresh students to shun cultism, pointing out that cult membership was an avenue to self-destruction.
“The management of the polytechnic frowns at membership of cult groups. As you settle down to your studies, be careful of the company you keep and the clubs and societies you belong to.
“The students affairs division has a list of approved clubs. I advise you to double check with them before signing into membership of any association. It is in your interest to do so,’’ she said.
The Registrar, Mrs Margaret Ashikpelokhai, who conducted the administration of the matriculation oath on the students said: “the oat is binding on you throughout your stay at the polytechnic.
“The oath is for you to pay due respects to the rector and officers of the polytechnic and to observe the rules and regulations of the polytechnic for good governance in the institution,’’ she said. (NAN)
