A lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, Miss Adeosun Idowu Jesulayomi has been awarded the 2021 University of Pretoria, PhD Commonwealth Scholarship. The scholarship which is open to all commonwealth countries is a well recognized and very competitive scholarship involving different PhD programmes.
The application process for the 2021 version of the scholarship started on August 15, 2020 and ended on September 13, 2020. The final result of the competition saw only two people in the field of Microbiology winning the award, Miss Adeosun from Adeleke University, Osun State Nigeria and one other candidate.
Her areas of specialization are; Medical Microbiology and Biotechnology, while the research that won the award centres around Anti-quorum potentials of selected medical plants in combating infections caused by pseudomonas aeruginosa; a medically significant pathogen implicated in many life-threatening and terminal infections. This area of interest has become imperative due to the incessant cases of life-threatening and terminal infections in the world.
The Bursary/Scholarship award would last for three years with all necessary pecuniary implications being taken care of by the sponsor. Miss Adeosun is expected to resume at the University of Pretoria in January 2021.
