ASUU's Claim of Eight Months Unpaid Salary is False - FG

The Federal Government has disregarded university lecturer’s allegations that they have not been paid eight months salaries.

The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba who tagged the claim by the lecturers as a lie, added that the statement was also unfair to the government. He went further to add that some lecturers got excess salaries and had to refund it back to the government.

Speaking on when the university lecturers would call off their strike and return back to their classrooms, the minister did not give a specific date, stating that there is no circumstance preventing the lecturers from returning back to their duty posts.

This is coming after ASUU had faulted the introduction of the federal government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) into the educational system.

Amid the controversy over IPPIS, ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi had accused the federal government of withholding the salaries of lecturers for eight months.
