The academic staff union of universities is set to call off its latest strike action after its consultation with individual striking universities on the offer made by federal government.
It will be noted that several meetings between the Federal Government and the leadership of ASUU on the suspension of the protracted strike which started on 5th Dec, 2012 has been ending in deadlock. The last meeting between both parties however produced some favourable results leading to the a pronouncement by ASUU to decide on the fate of the strike after a meeting with the National Executive Council (NEC) of the body on Tuesday, 31st Jan.
According to daily trust, a reliable source said that the leadership of the union under Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie has finish consultation with members and members have accepted government offers even though he personally refused what had been offered.
"Professor Awuzie is expected to make a final pronouncement, suspending the strike on Wednesday", the source said.
