ASUU rejects confab, says it was conceived without democratic, national debate and affirmation.

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has rejected the ongoing National Conference, noting that it cannot solve the country’s problems.
According to its president, Dr. Faggae Isa, while briefing journalists at the University of Calabar yesterday in Calabar, what the country requires at the moment is genuine transformation in all spheres.
He said, “The National Conference in its conception ab initio, was conceived without democratic, national debate and affirmation”.

He noted that what the nation needs is a struggle for the transformation of the country into a socialist welfare state and not a device for perpetuating the rule of the rich, powerful and corrupt.
“A socialist welfare state will remove the economic basis of the nationality problem, promote freedom of religion in condition of equality of citizens and remove the basis of state plunder and terror”, he added.
The ASUU boss decried the current spate of insecurity in the country especially in the North-East, saying that the foundation of the country is being shaken by the atrocities perpetuated by insurgents.
He called on all who are committed to the genuine reconstruction of Nigeria to embark on popular political education, adding that a socialist welfare state is the true alternative to enslavement to global liberalism. (Leadership)
