ASUU – FUTO Back Management to Fight Encroachment on FUTO Land:
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, FUTO Branch has expressed its solidarity with the University Management in its battle against the unscrupulous activities of some indigenes of host communities on encroachment on FUTO land.

Speaking during a solidarity visit to the Vice-Chancellor, the Vice-Chairman of ASUU-FUTO, Engr. Dr. K.N. Nwaigwe frowned at the invasion of the University by the indigenes of host community which led to destruction of University properties worth millions of naira as well as buildings under construction at the new FUTO Staff Quarters. He added that the Congress of the Union at its last meeting commended Management on their efforts to safeguard University Properties and expressed their support of Management’s determination to protect the boundaries of the University. He requested Management to commence the perimeter fencing of the University to forestall future invasion on the University’s Land.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Chigozie C. Asiabaka thanked the Union for their solidarity visit, stressing that their support was encouraging in the battle against encroachment on University land. He lamented the wanton destruction of University Properties by indigenes of Umuanunu village, Obinze and Umuchima village, Ihiagwa communities. He stated that the development of the staff quarters which has taken the University 34 years to realize was being disrupted. The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the University boundaries were not in dispute as the University is in custody of the Certificate of Occupancy and other relevant documents including evidences of compensations paid to the indigenes of the host communities. He further disclosed that Management has no powers to adjust the University boundaries.
The Vice-Chancellor pledged the commitment of Management to resolve the crisis.
