ASUU describes FG as blackmailers, set to meet today, August 16

The ongoing rift between members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal government keeps getting deeper as the former has claimed that the Federal Government is not sincere about resolving the issues that have led to the closure of tertiary institutions for almost six-month.

ASUU president, Emmanuel Osodeke, during an interview on Monday, August 15, stated that instead of addressing the issue affecting Nigerian public universities, the government rather decided to cajole the striking lecturers into calling off the strike by increasing their salaries, a move he describes as ''unfortunate and a blackmail''.

He described the industrial action as a sacrifice meant to save the education sector and the Nigerian youths from total collapse and reiterated that the union is committed to seeing the strike to the end until the right thing is done.

Osodeke maintained that they haven't heard any serious communication from the government but they have, however, been invited for the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement today, August 16.
