The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) Kaduna State chapter has expressed concern over the killing of its colleague Malam Abubakar Shehu.
Late Shehu who was a lecturer in the Physiology Department at the Kaduna state university was shot by armed men last month along Kaduna – Brinin Gwari Road according to a statement signed by the union chairman Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Abdu.
“It is very disheartening to note that even after the killing of Malam Abubakar and two other passengers on that fateful day, there is no single Police or Military checkpoint along the road apart from the one in Birnin Gwari town,’’ it said.
It stated that the killings in the state and country at large have become a source of worry and called on the Kaduna State government to synergize with federal authorities to establish a permanent Military and police presence on the said road.
The union also noted “the frightening and dangerous rates of unemployment especially among graduate in the country which led to the loss of about 19 lives at various recruitment centers organized by the Immigration service.”
