The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Akure Chapter has frowned at the recent hike in the price of petrol and electricity tariffs.

The Zonal Coordinator, Prof. Olu Olufayo expressed his displeasure over the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) silence on the issue, stressing that the price increment will add to the plight of struggling Nigerians in this pandemic period.

The union further stated that the plans of the federal government to re-open schools was an invitation to another COVID-19 pandemic.

Prof. Olufayo called for proper safety measures to be put in place to ensure that the health of staff and students who will be resuming academic activities will not be threatened.
