The Federal Government has stated that the condition set by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) before calling off their ongoing strike is “unreasonable”.
This is coming after ASUU maintained its position, adding that the strike will still be on until the federal government has passed an integrity test on the proposed payment system of the union; the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).
Reacting to this, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Ben Goong maintained that ASUU cannot dictate how its members should be paid by the federal government.
He said, "I don't know whether you know how many groups, organisations and associations receiving a salary from the federal account. So, if everybody is doing their own platform, imagine how many payment platforms government will have to deal with it."
