ASUP Strike:We are yet to meet the President directly — ASUP Boss

The ASUP chairman, Mr. Chibuzor Asomugha , while speaking with newsmen recently made it clear that ASUP has not had any direct negotiation with the president.

According to him, the president in response to the letter sent to him by the NLC directed the minister of labour to preside over the matter with a view to resolving it.

This led to a meeting involving the Minister of Labour, ASUP and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Unions, COEASU, with the NLC President in attendance. Where it was said that the decision arrived at, will be taken to the president for assent which will initiate implementation.

He however, expressed displeasure over the fact that, there has not been any direct intervention by the president to resolve the ASUP strike as was the case during the ASUU strike.

The national association of students on their own part has demanded that the dichotomy between the Higher National Diploma, HND and the Bachelors Degree should be abolished as a way of compensating the student for the long strike.

The ERC in showing their concern called on all stakeholders in ASUP and COEASU to embark on weeks of mass protests to force the government’s hand, saying that the prolonged strike is simply a show of irresponsibility on the part of the Government.
