The ASUP chapter of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, on Tuesday said it has temporary suspended and consequently pulled out from the general strike embarked by the Academic Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).
According to Malam Kabiru Yunusa, the Chairman of the union this became necessary in order to allow the students complete the 2012/ 2013 academic session.
He further stated that, they have no reason to continue with the strike since the prime demands of ASUP, including the inauguration of councils for polytechnics and formation of needs assessment committees, have been met.
In his words, “Our branch is only expecting the unconditional implementation of CONTISS 15 in the near future.’’
“The Federal Government has directed the national chairman of ASUP to liaise with the Head of Service and the Minister of Education to consider how the disparity between university Degree and HND will be bridged,”
However, there are mixed feeling among the lecturers following this decision.
The chairman of the union has called on the lecturers to resume academic activities on April 28, 2014.
