Following the protracted strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics,ASUP, and the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union ( COEASU), some concerned parents in
Abakaliki had appealed to the Federal Government to put an end to the situation.
The parents, who made the appeal in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki, expressed sadness and contended that the protracted nationwide strike by ASUP, and COEASU had adversely
affected academic activities in polytechnics and colleges of education.
According to report, the parents expressed that their patience has been overstretched and urged the government to end the strike. “I appeal to the Federal Government to act fast to end the strike in the interest of our children,” one of the respondents, Mr Paulinus Okoro, said. Mr Eugene Okpara one of the parents on his part, appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene and end the strike. “If the government does not pay attention to polytechnic and teacher education, how do we realise our dream of becoming an industrialised nation?” Okpara asked.
