the latest update reaching us says that in a meeting last Monday involving the Federal Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, NBTC, NCCE and other relevant stake holders at the presidential Villa to resolve the protracted ASUP strike, it was stated that the Federal Government has concluded plans to pay ASUP 20.6 Billion Naira.
It was gathered also that the editing and Adoption of Need Assessment committee Report for polytechnics and Colleges of Education by the Committee, ASUP, Federal Ministry of Education, NBTE and NCCE which was done last week Friday, the report is expected to be presented Wednesday, 9th April, 2014 at the Federal Executive Council meeting for approval and implementation with release of Fund required.
Earlier this week the Education Minister said that the reason the strike has not been called off is because ASUP has refused to accept two installments of the N40bn it demanded. Since 20.6 billion represents half of N40bn, does it mean that ASUP has finally agreed? If this is so, the 6-month strike may be called off soon.
