The Nigerian Army has said it will assist the country’s education sector to overcome its current challenges through Nigerian Army Education Corps.
The Commander, Corps of Education of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Sunday Adebayo, said this on Monday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital to herald the NAEC’s four-day education summit.
He stated that the summit as proposed by NAEC would critically assess the position of the nation’s education.
He said, “The summit is intended to stimulate new policies and influence the existing ones to take the system to the next level. This will invariably chart the way forward for the education system in Nigeria.”
Giving a brief history of the programme, the commander said NAEC was established primarily to provide qualitative and affordable education for service personnel/civilians and their children/wards, hence the establishment of the first Command Children School at Yaba in 1966 and the Command Secondary School at Ipaja-Lagos in 1977.
He stated that a total of 39 command children schools and 21 command secondary schools have so far been established in Nigeria even as NAEC also oversees the Nigerian Army School of Education, where various courses, including an Executive Management course and NCE, are run.
“Without any equivocation, it can be said that this aim has been largely achieved,” he said.
