In the early hours of Wednesday, July 6, at about 1:am, gun-wielding men invaded a lodge, housing members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Udo Ekong Ekwere street, off Information Drive in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State carting away valuables including laptops, cell phones, and cash.
Emeka Emmanuel, one of the victims of the attack who narrated the experience said the robbers arrived on a tricycle, popularly called Keke napep beaming high-intensity torchlights before pouncing on every door at the lodge with heavy irons. The robbers were said to have threatened to shoot anyone who hesitated to cooperate.
Narrating her encounter, a female Corps member said her phones, laptop, cash were forcefully taken away from her after the gunmen gained entrance into her room through the back door.
Other female corps member who bemoaned the attack wondered why no one came to their aid when they were being robbed and raped while explaining that most of the females always sleep naked at night and were totally taken by surprise when the attack started.
One Bassey Offiong, who lives close to the lodge said he reached out to the Ikot Akpanabia Police Command when he heard the corps members wailing, but unfortunately, the officers only arrived after the robbers had left the scene.
