Apapa Local Government constructs classrooms

The Apapa Local Government Area in Lagos State says it is poised to wipe out illiteracy in the council.

It has thus begun the construction of new classrooms in the area.

The council Chairman, Mr. Ayodeji Joseph, who stated this on Wednesday at Arakan Nursery and Primary School, Apapa, added that there was the need for quality education in the country.

He said, “I think I am a beneficiary of public education and I see no reason why leaders in government at any level will fail to provide standard education if that is what has made them who they are today. Good and qualitative education is not negotiable. They are assets that the citizens need in the country.

“I can remember vividly when I was in the primary school that our motto was ‘Education is the best legacy’. If education is the best legacy, then why can’t we develop it? For me, there is nothing better than education. Providing an environment that is conducive is a means of enhancing our educational standard.”

Stressing the importance of education, the council chairman added that it was an elixir for any country’s growth.

He said, “What many leaders do not know is that when you tackle the challenges facing the education sector from the primary level, a lot of things in the other sectors, including health, and banking, will grow easily.

“This is why we are building classrooms for all our public schools in a way to upgrade their status. As a government, we are interested in carrying out our duties. Since the construction of some of these classrooms started, enrolment in the council has increased.”
