The action did not only disrupt vehicular movement on Lagos-Badagry Expressway for about six hours, it also grounded all relevant activities in the institution. National Mirror gathered that trouble started when the students learnt that the management had increased tuition fee from N30, 000 to N70, 000 per year with immediate effect.
It was also learnt that students in the final class were at the forefront of the protest as they claimed that the management should have exempted them from the new fee regime.
But the college’s spokesman, Mr. Odunayo Adebowale, refuted the claim of fee hike by the students, saying there was nothing of such. While noting that the tuition fee remained N45, 000 per annum, he accused students who are spending extra years on campus based on academic grounds of masterminding the protest.
According to him, those categories of students would not want to pay any fee again despite the fact that they are still on campus enjoying the same service and facilities with other students.
Adebowale, however, said the Office of the Special Adviser on Education to the Governor was already meeting with the management and student leaders to resolve the crisis.
