Another ASUU Strike Looms As FG is Yet To Respond to Agreement

There are indication that the Academic Staff Union of Universities may embark on another strike as the Federal Government is yet to respond to the agreement it had with the Union that led to the suspension of the earlier strike in September, 2017.

Both the government and ASUU reached an agreement which stipulated that the Federal Government implements its agreed contents before the end of October, 2017.

However, the Federal Government is yet to implement issuance of licence for the registration of Nigerian University Pension Company (NUPEMCO), which it promised to do within two weeks after suspension of the strike.

It was equally gathered that the Federal Government was also defaulting in the payment of Earned Academic Allowances and Revitalisation Funds for Public Universities.

Although the Federal Government audit teams have visited campuses and concluded the auditing of staff as agreed, payment of the 23billion Naira promised by the end of October as payment for the 2009/2010 Earned Academic Allowances of lecturers in public universities in Nigeria is yet to be made.

The NEC of ASUU is expected to review the implementation of the Memorandum of Action and jointly take a decision on it.
