The unfortunate incident that occurred in Aluu village in October 2012 in which four students of the University of Port Harcourt were gruesomely murdered is one that is still fresh in the minds of people.
Recently a former Police Sergeant Lucky Orji, who was charged along with 11 other persons in connection with the murder in October 2012 appeared in court.
According to the prosecution, Orji against his Constitutional Duty to protect the citizens actually participated in the killing of the four students.
A video footage which was tendered as evidence, showed Orji hitting one of the victims with a butt of his AK 47 Rifle.
In his defence Orji, said that his team were not able prevail over the mob numbering about 3000 and consequently were unable to rescue the students.
The statement he made on October 14, 2012, obviously contradicted this claim.
In the statement Orji claimed that the police rescued the students and took them to the police patrol vehicle. But could not tell the court what happened afterwards.
He however, said that he wrote the statement under duress denying that he was the police man captured in the video footage hitting one of the students.
