Akwa Ibom: Govt. Releases N403 Million for Wassce Registration

Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the release of the sum of N403, 108,900, to facilitate the registration of candidates for the May/June 2013 West African Senior Secondary Certificate examination.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, who made this known, yesterday, in Uyo said that the approval was in furtherance of the Akpabio administration's commitment to ensuring that Nigerian children in Akwa Ibom public schools were availed of the opportunity to access basic education from primary to senior secondary school, at no cost to their parents or guardians."

It would be recalled that in 2008, the government declared a free and compulsory education for all Nigerian children resident in Akwa Ibom State. So far, the administration has expended over N50 billion to revamp the education sector in the State, paid examination fees, provided textbooks and other learning materials.

Umanah also said that the administration has engaged in massive rehabilitation and construction of educational infrastructure.
