AAUA launches Agro-Shop, to inaugurate

The Acting Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, fulfilled a pledge made earlier in the year by launching the first Agro Shop of the Institution, where selling of animal and crop products from the University Farms would be taking place at ‘considerably lesser prices’ to all members of the University community and the public.

Prof. Ige also expressed the hope that the shop would bolster the relationship between the Institution and its host communities.

It will be recalled that the Acting Vice Chancellor had on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, laid the foundation for the shop, noting that it marked another step forward in the community service function of the University and would help to improve the Institution’s Internally Generated Revenue.

Prof. Ige, who also used the foundation-laying occasion to formally hand-over a Tractor for use on the University farms, promised the gathering that organic plant and animal products like vegetables, palm oil, snails, chicken, beef, assorted fruits, and poultry products, among others, would be offered for sale at greatly discounted prices.

At the launching ceremony, Prof. Ige said, “This shop will provide an outlet for produce and products from our farms. We will put on sale produce like plantains, bananas, and palm oil; as well as products like live and processed chicken, pork, goat meat, fresh and smoked fish, and crates of eggs, among others.”

He also disclosed that the University would soon inaugurate a ‘Mammy Market’ where farm produce like peppers, tomatoes, and other vegetables would be sold at cheap prices to members of the University community.

Speaking earlier, the Dean of Agriculture, Prof. Adebayo Aromolaran, commended the Acting VC for fulfilling the promise he made earlier in the year to put the Agro Shop in place to serve all and sundry.
