The African Union Civic Tech Fund (AUCTF) presents an opportunity for dynamic African initiatives to catalyse and scale their innovative civic tech solutions. If you are harnessing the power of technology to drive citizen-led transformative action across the African continent, this call is for you. Successful recipients of the grant call will receive up to €15000 in financial support to scale and accelerate their civic-tech projects and initiatives. Applications for funding must align with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 – Africa’s blueprint and master plan to deliver on its goal for inclusive and sustainable development. The competition is open to local organisations and projects operating and registered within African countries
The second round of the AUCTF presents an opportunity for dynamic African organizations, initiatives, and projects. This 12-month initiative seeks to catalyse and scale innovative civic tech solutions that harness the power of technology to drive citizen-led transformative action across the African continent. In particular, the Fund responds to the need to drive forward meaningful citizen participation in spaces of governance through the innovative use of data and digital technologies to address governance and development challenges while recognising the central importance of Africa’s youth in shaping the future of the continent.

Aim and Benefits of African Union Civic Tech Fund
- Successful recipients of the grant call will receive up to €15000 in financial support to scale and accelerate their projects and initiatives.
- The AUCTF can support up to 15 organisations and initiatives.Upon receiving the funding, the second cohort will undergo capacity building and technical support, which includes training sessions to enhance digital literacy, promoting inclusivity and diversity across initiatives; stakeholder engagement approaches and developing advocacy strategies to influence policy at a local level.
Requirements for African Union Civic Tech Fund Qualification
To be eligible for the African Union Civic Tech Fund, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a not-for-profit and for-profit organisations acting within the civic space & the civic tech ecosystem.
- The organization must be a legal entity and be registered in an African Union Member State.
- Must be able to sign a service contract agreement.
- The organization must not be bankrupt.
- The organization must not have been the subject of a judgment for fraud, corruption, involvement in a criminal organization or any other illegal activity.
- The organization must not have received an adverse audit opinion, either by its own auditors or its donor’s auditors.
- The organization can demonstrate how the intervention supported through the Fund will be sustained.
- The organization can already show evidence of the impact of their work and can indicate how additional resources will increase their impact.
