- African Base: Applicants must be based in Africa, with the lead investigator being a full professor at an African university, holding a PhD.

- The lead investigator, a university-affiliated full professor with expertise in African peace, security, and development, should apply on the team’s behalf.
- Application submission is via the SSRC’s Open Water Application Portal.
- The application should include the Application Form, CV, Research Proposal & Bibliography, Proposed Timeline and Budget, Team Member Details, Two Reference Letters, and Language evaluation(s) if required.
- All application materials, except non-English reference letters which must be accompanied by an English translation, should be in English.
