No less than 313 new students of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, were in attendance at the orientation programme held at the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Law Auditorium yesterday. The event ,which was organized by Student’s Affairs Unit, began at 10 a.m .
The new students were addressed by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Professor Jacob Adeniyi, Registrar, Mrs. Adenike T. Fatogun, Acting Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. J.A. Ampitan, Head of Department of Public and International Law, Venerable Professor Gaius Okwezuzu, who represented Venerable Lekan Onanuga, the University Chaplain, Barrister Oludayo Bamgbose , who spoke for the Dress Code Committee, Assistant Chaplain, Venerable Oladipo Oyinlade, Chairman of the Parents and Sponsors Forum of Ajayi Crowther University, Mrs. Deborah Eddy- Ugorji, Secretary of the Forum, Mr. E.O. Makinde and others.
All the speakers admonished the students to be well behaved, and to pay attention to their studies. They were also told that the University has rules, as contained in the students’ handbook, and contravention of such rules attract punishment. They were also told that the University would do all within its reach to ensure that they study in comfortable and serene environment.
Venerable Professor Gaius Okwezuzu, who spoke on behalf of the Chaplain, told the students their their spiritual development was as important as their academic development, stating that it was important that they paid adequate attention to their spiritual development because it will make them turn out as individuals who are spiritually and mentally balanced, thus fulfilling the University’s mandate of producing godly intellectuals.
Mrs. Ugorji assured them that they would have a good experience in the University adding that as a parent, she has been largely satisfied with what the University has made of her daughter. She told the students that they were in safe hands.
