ACEONDO staff members protest delay in VC’S appointment, accuses governing council of complicity

Non-teaching staff members of the Adeyemi College of Education, in Ondo state have protested against the delay in the appointment of a Vice Chancellor for the college upgraded to a University Status by President Muhammadu Buhari in January this year.

The aggrieved staff members blocked the busy Ondo / Ore highway for hours causing traffic gridlock. They issued a one-month ultimatum to the Federal government to appoint a new vice-chancellor, or peace would not be guaranteed in the institution.

Gates leading to the institution were firmly locked preventing free access by students, workers and visitors into the campus.

The protesting workers displayed various placards with inscriptions such as ” Adeyemi Community demnds a Vice Chncellor, Presidency give us our Vive Chncellor,  Adamu Adamu give us our Vice-Chancellor , other principal officers, All we are saying is give us our Vice-Chancellor, amongst others.

After the protest, a communique issued by the joint Congress of the Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education, (SSUCOEN), National Association of Academic Technologist of Nigeria, (NACEATON) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated lnstitutions NASU, accused the institution's governing council of frustrating the take-off of the university.

They accused the Governing Council of concealing information from members of staff as regards the University's status and used it to reappoint the College Provost and Registrar in order to frustrate the takeoff of the University, despite the fact that the Adeyemi College of Education no longer exists by Law.
