ACEONDO Gets Full Accreditation to run TRCNs Professional Diploma

This was revealed on Thursday, 22 July 2021 during the matriculation of sixty Professional Diploma Education (PDE) students admitted in the 2019/2020 academic session held at the institution’s Centre for Educational Technology (CET).

In his address during the brief ceremony, the College Provost, Dr Samuel Akinrinlola Akintunde expressed great pleasure in welcoming the matriculating students to the College, describing the ceremony as “epoch-making’’.

He revealed that the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria team visited the College on 28 April, 2021 for accreditation exercise to ascertain the level of compliance with the PDE National Minimum Standards.

“And as of today, the College has earned full accreditation to run the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) programme,” he stated.

Going down memory lane, Dr Akintunde hinted that the matriculation for the 2019/2020 academic session is the third PDE one to be held in the College, since the establishment of the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research in the College in 1992.

Speaking further, the Provost stated that “the College established the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research in August 1992, in collaboration with the University of affiliation, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.”

He added that, for twenty-four years (between 1992 and 2016), the matriculations for the matriculating students of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme had been held on the premises of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The College’s helmsman explained that the real teaching, research and other academic activities of the PGDE programme were conducted under the College Management of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo.

The Provost hinted that the College management engaged the TRCN to start the PDE to produce effective human capacity towards high-level manpower that will be useful in classroom teaching, planning, organization, management and policymaking at the various levels of education.

He stated that the programme commenced in the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research during the 2016/2017 academic session.

Dr Akintunde informed the matriculating students that the College reserves the right to withhold the award of Professional Diploma in Education certificate to any student found wanting, charging them to maintain all-round decency throughout their studentship and to also fulfil the Oath of Allegiance they swore to.

The Provost, on behalf of the College management, commended the efforts of the Directorate of PGS&R for the successes recorded so far, as he appreciated the efforts of Ondo State Coordinator of TRCN, Mr. Adesina Akande towards the accreditation of the PDE programme.

In his goodwill message, the TRCN State Coordinator congratulated the matriculants and commended them for choosing the PDE, insisting that the Professional Diploma in Education has the same status as the Post-Graduate Diploma in Education.

Akande added that the graduates of PDE can use the certificates to process admission for their masters and doctoral degrees in any field of education without hindrance.

He went further to say that on the completion of the PDE programme, TRCN will conduct a Professional Qualifying Examination Integrated (PQEI) for all those who graduated, and those that pass the examination would be inducted into the teaching profession.

The TRCN State Coordinator, however, underscored the robust relationship between Adeyemi College of Education and Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, praying that the cordial relationship would not be strained.

While rejoicing with the matriculants, Mr Akande enjoined them to take their studies seriously so as to help in sanitizing the teaching profession.

On his own part, the class governor for 2019/2020 academic session, Mr. Paul Ayobamidele Lateef expressed satisfaction with the conducive academic environment as well as quality teaching in the College, assuring that he and members of his class would be good ambassadors of the institution.

The College Registrar, Mrs Olufisayo Fakorede administered the oath of allegiance to the matriculating students after which they filled and signed the oath forms.
