ABU: Alumni Honours Late Kontagora plus 12 Best Graduating Students

The alumni of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Abuja chapter has honoured the late Major General Mamman Kontagora with a posthumous distinguished alumnus award for outstanding service.

It also presented 12 best graduating students from each faculty N100, 000 with a promise of immediate employment as graduate assistants by the Chairman of the Governing Council of ABU, Architect Mohammed Dewu.

Speaking at the annual lecture/dinner and award night held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Sunday night, Governor of Katsina State, Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Shema, launched the endowment fund the sum N10 million.

He called for a reflection on the current state of the university and useful contributions and sacrifices to ensure that the institution is restored to its pride of place as a foremost centre of learning and research in the West African sub-region.

In a lecture on peace and security, Prof. Femi Odukunle expressed sadness that people who are going to jail for wrong doing are petty thieves whereas those who engaged in monumental corruption moved around freely.

Other recipients of the award include former minister of state for health, Dr Idi Hong, Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Rear Admiral Thomas J. Lokoson, and Kabiru Yusuf among others.
