ABSU to investigate the death of 200L MLS Student

The Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University, Distinguished Professor O.M. Ogbulu, has expressed shock and sadness on the unfortunate incident of a 200-level Student of Medical Laboratory Science, Mr. Ibeabuchi Marshall, who slumped and died while playing football at the University Pavillion, on Monday, 22nd February, 2021.

The Vice-Chancellor commiserates with the Parents of the deceased, members ef the immediate family and the entire Students of the University on the unfortunate incident.

The Vice-Chancellor has therefore urged the students to remain calm, as the University Management will leave no stone unturned at investigating the remote and immediate causes of the death, to avert future occurrence. He assured the students that the University Medical Centre is equipped with state of the art facilities, experienced and dedicated personnel, who are fully trained to efficiently respond to emergencies and medical challenges.

Eye witness report Indicate that the deceased was said to be playing a football match at the University Pavillion, where he did a back flip to celebrate their victory, which resulted to hitting his head on the ground. He was rushed to the Medical Centre and all efforts done to revive him, proved abortive, as no vital signs could be obtained. He was therefore, dead before arrival to the Clinic, as stated by the Medical Director

The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that protection of lives and property of Staff and Students of the University is one of the cardinal objectives of the University Administration, which is being handled with dexterity and professionalism

He described the death of Mr. Ibeabuchi Marshall, as very painful to him, as the life of every Student of the University is very important to the University Management
