NASU, NAAT, SSANU Suspend 3 Months Nationwide Strike

The non-academic unions of universities,(NASU, NAAT, SSANU) under the umbrella of Joint Action Committee (JAC) has called off the 3 months strike action which began December 4, 2017.

Chairman of the Joint Action Committee of the unions, Samson Ugwuoke, announced this decision at a briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, noting that “based on extensive consultations with our various organs, we hereby announce the suspension of the strike action embarked upon by JAC with effect from today, March 14.”

The JAC comprises of the National Association of Academic Technologists, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities.

Members of the unions have been directed to resume on March 15, 2018.

The Chairman however warned that the unions may be forced to resume the action if agreements that led to its suspension were not strictly adhered to.

It was gathered that the federal government at a meeting with the unions last week, had agreed to source for about N8 billion to settle the earned allowance of striking non-teaching staff of universities within the next five weeks, a commitment that led to the suspension of the industrial action.
