Rivers College of Education Lecturers Risk Sacking over Exam Malpractice:
Five lecturers of the College of Education in Awi, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State are presently undergoing investigation for examination malpractice.
While briefing journalists on Tuesday, Provost of the institution, Dr James Ejue, said if found culpable by the governing council, the lecturers would be sacked.
He also said a lecturer was in 2013 sacked after he was found guilty of the same offence.
Ejue disclosed that some students, whom he did not name, were expelled in 2013 due to examination malpractice, adding that more would be expelled this year.
“We don’t compromise on academic standards. We have zero tolerance for corruption here. We will not hesitate to sack those five lecturers if they are found culpable as their colleague was sacked for the same offence last year,” he said.
The Provost said at the moment, the institute offered 23 courses out of which 20 had full accreditation.
The remaining three, he added, had partial accreditation.
He said the school was working hard to ensure that remaining courses had full accreditation.
Ejue hinted of plans by the school to start awarding degrees.
