24 "illegal" private schools shut down in Sokoto

About 24 private schools in Sokoto State have been shut by the state Ministry of Education for allegedly operating illegally.

The schools were said to have been closed down due to lack of registration/approval from Ministry of Education, non- compliance with national minimum standards and state operational guide lines.

Chairman of the Implementation Committee of report on standardization of private schools in the state, Alhaji Yusuf Mai Akwai Gwadabawa said so far 24 schools have been closed down in the process.

According to him, the measure was aimed at sanitizing the sector and regulating the activities of private schools in the state.

Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Nura Bello Maikwanchi said all the schools were operating illegally as only the Commissioner for Education has the power to give approval for operating.

He gave the names of the schools to include Hosseenu Heritage, Bright Future Foundation Schools, Excellent Academy Schools/JSS and Bright Future Primary/JSS all located along Sokoto Cinema.

Others are Wisdom Nursery & Primary School Fakon Ide Area Bonny Kiddies University, Gudan Newa, Children Hope Bazzaarea, High Fliers Chosen Schools Trade fair complex, Divine Champion School, Offa road Mabera,Twins Pillar Academy Offa road, Sokoto and Children Hope Nursery and Primary, Kantin Sani

Also included are Minnarete Nursery & Primary, Rozel Nursery, primary &Jss, Harmon Schools Nursery & Primary, Admis Nursery and Primary, Children Home School and Children Home School JSS section all at Minannata area.

At Mabera area of Sokoto, Solid Foundation Schools, Basma schools and Unique Science Int. Schools were closed down.

Brighter Children School/Nur. JSS beside Stadium, Kinsey Academy Koko road, New Gate Nursery & Primary AliyuJedo and Good Home Schools, Gagi were part of the 24 that were shut.

It was learnt that over 100 private schools are likely to be closedown by the Ministry of Education in the exercise.
