A 200-level student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State has won the Dr Chinedu Umeadi Foundation’s Essay Competition for undergraduates.
Esther Okeke who is a Human Anatomy student of the institution defeated 3000 others to emerge winner in the essay competition, titled, ‘Governance in Nigeria: How the Youths Can Get Involved.’ She was given a scholarship by the foundation to finish her course and a cash prize of N200,000.
The president of the foundation, Ikem Onwuadi hinted that the competition would become an annual event aimed at reorientating the youths and creating the consciousness of a better society.
A former vice-chancellor of UNIZIK, Prof Pita Ejiofor, who chaired the occasion expressed optimism that participants would advance the solutions they suggested in their essays, thereby becoming beacons for change. He also charged the government to create platforms that would encourage the youths.
The competition was organised for students in the seven Local Government Area of Anambra Central Senatorial District.
