A 20-year-old student of the Gombe State University (GOMSU), Maryam Adamu, has narrated her ordeal in the face of the continued closure of schools as the strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) lingers on.
Maryam, a 200-level student of the Department of Public Administration during an interview said the strike has dashed her dreams of graduating before the age of 20 and forced her into an urgent search for a husband. She explained that after staying at home for such a long time, the zeal to study has slowly died off and all she wants now is to get married.
The student said at first, she was totally carried away by her studies and never gave marriage a thought but at the moment, the idleness caused by the strike has made marriage a priority and she would gladly choose it above continuing her education.
She said;
"ASUU and government can continue with their games, all I care about and I am worrying about now is to get married so that I will not fall into things I will end up regretting because I don’t even know what I will be going back to do if schools are to be reopened today. They have killed the interest in me and so many of my school friends. My parents have now picked interest in giving me out in marriage."
