Barely a week after the Akwa Ibom State government announced that a student writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examinations in the state had tested positive for COVID-19, 20 more students participating in the exams have also been confirmed to having been infected with the virus in Bayelsa state.
The Permanent Secretary, Bayelsa State Ministry of Health, Inodu Apoku, made the disclosure on Thursday, 27 August. Mr Apoku said 20 students have tested positive for the virus, but did not reveal if the students will write the exams in the state's isolation centers.
He also added that the safety measures put in place to check the virus aided the discovery of the 20 positive cases.
